Speakers are a very important, yet often underestimated part of cars. What materials should be used for their housing, so that they are not only safe, but also play clearly?

For many of us driving miles in the car with our favorite music on the speakers is a very pleasant and relaxing thing. No wonder then, that so many people in their four-wheelers place great emphasis on, among other things, a good sound system. Some can’t even concentrate on driving without the sound of their favorite songs.

A good speaker is one thing, but it is very important to be able to skillfully fit it into your car, and also hide it in such a way that it does not scare passengers with exposed cables and protruding components. By the way, it should be done in such a way that the sound is not muffled or distorted as a result of using an inappropriate enclosure. What are the best materials to use so that the speaker looks good and plays the music the way you want it to?

MDF

This is a really widely used material, especially for subwoofers or speakers that can emit really impressive bass ranges. MDF, which stands for Medium Density Fibreboard, is a common term used with fiberboard

MDF is first and foremost a very durable material that can withstand heavy loads, and let’s not hide the fact that this is exactly what is generated when playing powerful music with the bass turned up. Vibrations, which are generated by speakers in such specifications, can do a lot more in terms of destroying certain materials than it seems.

It should come as no surprise, then, that in our search for the perfect material for our speaker enclosure, we will not only need a good conductor of sound, but also a material that ensures a long life for the enclosure. How does fiberboard fare in this regard? It turns out to be really great, which is why it is most often chosen for such tasks.

Not only does MDF handle bass very well, but it also conducts it very well, so it won’t be able to distort it. So it will be a really good choice for people, who like to listen to strong, stimulating rock or hip-hop sounds in their car. However, if we want to play something milder, it will not be the slightest problem with this enclosure.

Plastic

Plastic is a cheaper, but nowadays much less popular material for speaker enclosures. It may not have as great bass characteristics as MDF but it can give us a few other advantages.

First of all, it is much easier to fit a plastic enclosure to your car. This material lets sound through well and does not distort it, which allows us to listen to music in good quality. In addition, it is the choice of the most simply in the world cheap, which is definitely an important plus and makes it certainly worth considering for your car the use of plastic housing for speakers.
