1. Electric cars

There is no doubt that electric cars will soon take over the automotive market. Unfortunately, environmental issues are only one of the reasons for this – as the ecological footprint of these types of cars is still a central topic of heated debate. Behind the dominance of electric cars is a technological advantage

Current electric cars have huge ranges of almost 1000 km from a decade perspective. The market leader in this respect – Tesla Motors – set a high range as a standard quite a few years ago. From the point of view of the market, it is no longer profitable to produce cars with a range of just 400 km per charge. In industry nomenclature, that would be business suicide

A range standard of around 500 km seems a logical solution. The vast majority of us, by virtue of the routes we travel, would have to charge our car every few days. So it doesn’t deviate much from the interval between traditional refueling.

On the other hand, there is no denying that electric technology can prove to be a hindrance in case of longer trips. Not everywhere will we find car chargers in convenient locations – at least for now. Hence, the following conclusion – the key to market domination of electric cars is global availability of chargers. Although the number of chargers is growing all the time, it is not happening at a pace that allows global expansion

2. Autonomous driving

Just a few years ago, we reacted with a derisive smile to the phrase “autonomous cars.” Either way, we’re getting closer and closer to the futuristic reality. This is primarily due to Tesla Motors Inc

Autonomous cars are equipped with a number of devices that are designed to relieve the driver from active participation in driving. Already, new Tesla models are able to completely take control of the vehicle using autopilot straight out of science fiction movies. Not to mention the parking assistant, which can park in even the narrowest parking spaces

The technology is not yet perfect, but with devices such as radar, lidar, GPS and image recognition, we have a glimpse into the automotive world of the future.

3. CO2 emissions

We are all aware of the climate change that is taking place on our planet, but still no way has been clarified to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. We know one thing – it will cause a revolution in the automotive world

For example, from 2021 onwards, all cars sold in Europe will have to emit an average of just 95g of carbon dioxide per kilometer, or else the car companies will pay a fine. The value of the fine may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but the order will not be waived

Changes in carbon dioxide emission standards are not only being forced on the Old Continent. Interestingly, a limit of 95 grams of CO2/km will come into force in China in 2025, while the US has agreed to a slightly higher limit of 102 grams of CO2/km. And this is just the beginning.

4. Unmanned transport

Unmanned trucks are a major transport sector of the future. Tests are already underway on this type of solution, including in the Netherlands. As the years go by, traffic regulations are systematically changing to anticipate the reality of unmanned trucks becoming a reality. Inevitably, hundreds of thousands of professional drivers would lose their jobs. On the other hand, sleepless machines would significantly increase the speed at which goods are delivered.

There’s no denying that driverless vehicles represent an opportunity to improve road safety by reducing accidents and traffic congestion. For example – one of the visions of the future is of fully automated traffic, where cars communicate with each other to avoid accidents and traffic incidents. Undoubtedly, this would be an important step in road transportation.

5. Safety

All the above examples have implications for the safety of the future reality. Because after all, electric cars increase our safety. Autonomous driving will allow us to travel safely, thanks to a computer with computing power far beyond that of a human. As a result, we will be able to dramatically reduce accidents. Reducing active carbon emissions will systematically improve the quality of the air we breathe. And finally, unmanned transportation will be able to reduce traffic congestion and incidents on the road

All of this adds up to a new, safer reality in which concern for human life is paramount
